Abstract:
The Russian Federation is characterized by wide disparities in the level of socio-economic development of its regions. This is usually explained by objective reasons, such as high level of development of resource potential, favorable geographic location, good climatic conditions, developed social infrastructure.
The level of human development includes a number of interrelated components: education, health, life expectancy, and income level.
The human potential is usually measured on a territory basis.
The article analyzes the level of human potential development in the regions of the Volga Federal District. The key indicators chosen for evaluation are are as follows: the number of permanent residents; the number of healthcare organizations; natural population growth or decline; life expectancy at birth; average per capita income; gross residential area; number of budgeted and paid students enrolled (undergraduate, specialist, and Master's Degree programs). The influence of the crisis situation associated with a new coronavirus infection on the dynamics of the indicators is analyzed. Promising directions of human development in the regions of the Volga Federal District are formulated.
