The competitiveness of the higher education system of the People's Republic of China: achievements, problems and prospects

Abstract:
This research is devoted to the analysis of theoretical and methodological aspects and mechanisms aimed at the development of the academic organizations of the People's Republic of China and increasing its competitiveness. The article analyzes the strategic and tactical tools that allow the Chinese Government to implement a policy of transforming the national scientific and educational system into the world's largest center of technological leadership and academic excellence. The results achieved by leading Chinese universities in the big three world University competitiveness rankings are presented. A comparative analysis of the competitive positions of the flagship higher education institutions in China and Russia in the QS World University Ranking by Subject is conducted, which allows determining their place relative to the world leaders. The article considers the achievements and deep problems of the modern Chinese higher education system, which should be thoroughly studied and taken into account when developing national strategic plans and programs aimed at achieving academic excellence in the global education market. The results of the research can be of interest to a wide range of researchers such as university managers, researchers, teachers, postgraduates and students, as well as all those interested in the development of academic organizations in different countries and the global competitiveness of universities.
