Peculiarities of employment and problems of employment of older groups in the Russian labor market

Abstract:
The article presents selected outputs of a comprehensive study of employment of workers of pre-retirement and retirement age in the Russian Federation. Official statistical publications of the Federal State Statistics for 2005-2017, as well as materials of a sociological survey of elderly people conducted with the participation of the author in October-November 2017, aimed at identifying factors affecting the work of the older generation, serve as information base of the study. The article shows the results of the statistical analysis of the scale and structure of employment of older age groups of Russian population in terms of activities, occupation, sex and age; the article also shows selected indicators characterizing the average time of job search for unemployed persons of pre-retirement and retirement age; we assess them and identify their peculiarities. We pay special attention to the assessment of the views of older persons on the difficulties associated with their employment, including difficulties related to the age discrimination in selection process.
