The role of the third university mission in the ESG transformation of the regions

Abstract:
The spread of the sustainable development concept in the scientific and academic environment and business has formed the understanding of regions as socio-ecological and economic systems in dynamically changing conditions of the internal and external environment. Today, there is a broad implementation of ESG principles in the activities of regional executive authorities, which are focused on achieving sustainable development goals in accordance with long-term strategic documents of the federal and regional levels. Higher education institutions are also becoming one of the key agents of ESG transformation at the regional level. Higher education institutions are in search of effective tools for social programming of society as part of the implementation of their third mission. The article presents a conceptual model of the university's participation in the ESG transformation of the region. The main directions of the implementation of the third mission of the university in the context of the ongoing socio-ecological and economic transformation of territories at the meso-level are formulated. The topic considered in this article will be of interest to representatives of the scientific and academic sphere dealing with the problems of integrated development of territories, as well as to a wide range of specialists studying the implementation of the principles of sustainable development and their impact on the socio-ecological and economic development of regions.
