Abstract:
The article reviews the historical progressive role of inequality and poverty (as a function and an argument of inequality), as well as factors that determine them. The authors substantiate the strategy of harmonization and achievement of such values of the inequality and poverty rates at which they acquire the status of real drivers of the economic growth. Based on the comparative analysis of inequality rates, the position of Russia among the European Economic Community, G7 and the wealthiest Scandinavian countries (“where the people live well”) is determined. The article is heuristic and prognostic so it can be useful to students, researchers and public officials who are responsible for the population’s well-being.
