Abstract:
Thу article presents the results of a content analysis of comments by Russian users in financial publics belonging to major Russian banks and brokerage firms on the VKontakte social network for the period 2013–2026. Statistical data from financial institutions' social media pages allow to conclude that Sberbank and T-Bank clearly dominate in terms of both user activity and interest in informational content. The authors have found that brokerage pages exhibited the highest level of informational activity among these organizations. Using machine learning methods, the authors have analyzed sentiment trends from 2013 to 2026. The results show a clear predominance of negative and neutral comments and suggested a correlation with the MOEX Index. Notably, peaks in user emotional activity coincide with major epidemiological (COVID-19) and geopolitical (the conflict in Ukraine) events. A frequency analysis of the vocabulary used in comments reveals the continued dominance of a conservative model of financial behavior, with discussions centering primarily on bank cards, banking apps, and various types of client accounts.
