Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of medical and demographic development as one of the important aspects in the formation of a sustainable economic potential of the state. To assess the effectiveness of health care and successful socio-economic policy, it is necessary to take into account regional specificity in terms of mortality rates for the main classes of diseases and life expectancy. The research was carried out on the example of the Republic of Karelia. The direct impact of new global challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, on all areas in the healthcare system has been noted. During such a period, the socio-economic component of the whole society is unstable, and for further positive medical and demographic development, it is necessary not only to take into account the experience of past years in the successful modernization of the organization of health care, but also to adapt to new conditions without losing efficiency in other spheres of society. Despite the positive dynamics in medical and demographic indicators, the Republic of Karelia still remains in the list of regions where mortality rates are higher and life expectancy is below the national average. The article will be of interest to researchers of demographic processes and healthcare professionals. The results of the statistical data analysis will help in determining the most important areas for maintaining health and increasing the quality of life in the region. FUNDING: The article was prepared as part of the state assignment of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences; research topic "Comprehensive research and development of sustainable development management of the northern and border zones of Russia amidst global challenges".
