The influence of the digitalization trends on HoReCa industry

Abstract:
The article reviews key trends in the development of digital technologies and analyzes their potential impact on HORECA industries. Five key trends are identified. Agent interfaces allow to reduce communication costs and provide new customer experience. Blockchain increases the quality and transparency of logistics and supply chains. Face recognition and other biometric tools extend the possibilities of payment and access to services. Internet of things and smart cities will change the whole business environment. Social robots and other cyberphysical systems can automatize the basic working operations in hotels and restaurants. Both the opportunities for the Russian HORECA companies and possible barriers and side effects are analyzed. It is concluded that to gain advantage from new digital technologies, companies have to shift from digitization of separate tasks to a digital transformation of business as a whole.
