Abstract:
One of the directions of sustainable tourism development is the development of a barrier-free environment. Even in the context of an international consensus on the importance of accessible tourism for inclusive economic development, this problem is not getting enough attention in Russia. The state does not consider the task of developing tourism for the disabled and low-mobility groups of the population a priority, and representatives of the tourism industry consider the modernization of this direction as an expensive charity project. The purpose of this research is to provide a theoretical justification for the need for innovative activities aimed at the development of barrier-free sustainable tourism. The paper presents a synthesis of research approaches to the role of innovation in the development of barrier-free sustainable tourism,as well as the need to shift innovation activity from the state to the business community. The final part offers options for innovative solutions with a division by level of issues and initiators of changes, as well as identifies areas for further research.
