Insurance transformation: innovative products and technologies

Abstract:
This article examines the directions of innovative activity of Russian insurance companies in providing insurance products and applying new technologies in the conditions of digitalization of the economy. The definitions of an insurance product and an insurance service are generalized to clarify the definition of an insurance product in the context of a client-oriented model of the insurance business. The classification of new insurance products by the degree of innovation was reviewed and supplemented, which allowed us to identify opportunities for increasing the introduction of innovations in three areas such as new products, new technologies, and new sales channels. The prospects for digitalization of insurance are shown; and the reasons for its slowdown in Russian practice are noted. Attention is focused on the possibility of simultaneous development of digital technologies and traditional approaches to insurance due to territorial disparities and the commitment of policyholders to the established standard insurance procedure with further reorientation of customers to the use of digital technologies. It is necessary to improve the insurance culture of insurance products consumers and their competence in making financial decisions to increase the effectiveness of innovations in insurance.
