Aircraft leasing: is it salvation for airlines in the Far East of Russia?

Abstract:
Air transport is an integral part of the economic complex of the Russian Far East. Its functioning is vital for the entire macroregion in the absence of developed land transport modes. The article describes the financial and economic aspects of aircraft leasing, analyzes the current state of the fleet of local airlines of the North-East of Russia from the position of their age and prevalence of leasing as the main way to replenish the fleet. The study showed that if in Russia as a whole the share of aircraft in leasing is 62%, for local airlines of the North-East of Russia this figure is less than 5%. Also, the needs of local airlines in certain types of aircraft were assessed; the results were compared with the investment program for the development of the domestic aviation industry, implemented by PJSC "United Aircraft Corporation". As a result, the conclusion is made about the extremely limited opportunities for the use of aircraft leasing by local airlines, as well as about the impossibility of cardinal improvement of the situation and significant renewal of the aircrafts fleet in the nearest future.
