Abstract:
The article demonstrates that a well-known mechanism for studying a company’s external environment – PEST-analysis – may successfully be used also for studying the company’s internal environment. PEST-analysis along with use of a unified business culture typology – which implies identification of four basic culture types: a culture of a professional, a culture of a leader, a culture of a bureaucrat and a culture of an entrepreneur – has enabled to perform a comparative analysis of well-known typologies of management roles by R.M. Belbin and H. Mintzberg, to systematize the conclusions of the lifecycle theory by I.K. Adizes. Certain practical recommendations have been provided as for the list of typical psychological characteristics of top managers.

Keywords: lifecycle, management functions, management roles, Belbin typology
