Abstract:
The article examines the evolution of academic research on the public funding of professional sports and provides a review of the funding practices of professional sports clubs in leading global leagues. The article analyzes the evolution of academic approaches to the topic, including key concepts and research questions. The review highlights that studies on public funding have primarily focused on North American and European sports, while the Russian context remains largely unexplored, underscoring the need for further research. In addition, a review of the funding practices of professional sports clubs in various countries is carried out. The analysis identifies similarities and differences between approaches, providing a basis for future studies of the Russian model of public funding. The article contributes to a deeper understanding of the subject and emphasizes the need to analyze the specifics of public funding of professional sports clubs in Russia.
