Abstract:
Evolution of business terminology, which characterizes its directions and ways of development, can be represented by a sequence of concepts such as a strategy, a business model, an ecosystem and a platform. However, there is no consensus among scholars to date on how conceptually they coincide or, on the contrary, they are conceptually different. In this regard, the article discusses in more detail the approaches to the relatively new concept of "ecosystem". Borrowed from biology, this term usually refers to a group of interacting firms, which depend on each other's activities. In this context, foreign authors highlight three areas of interpretation. The first one is business ecosystem, which focuses on the firm and its environment. The second one focuses on the central role of a particular innovation or new value proposition and those who develop it. The third one is a platform ecosystem which considers how to organize subjects around the platform. Development in the direction of platforms seems to be one of the most promising in terms of management, and business management in particular.
