Dynamics of structure of cultivated areas of the Penza region in the regional food security

Abstract:
After 1990 in the Penza region there was a significant decrease in cultivated land. The lowest level was formed in 2014, compared to 1990, it amounted to 1187.7 thousand hectares (53 %). By 2017, the cultivated areas increased up to 1,378.7 thousand hectares (62 %). The area under grain crops and potatoes decreased by 2 times. The area under annual and perennial grasses decreased by 3 times. Decrease under fodder root crops and corn for silage was by 15.5 times. The area of sunflower increased by 7.7 times. The yield of grain crops and sugar beet increased by 2.5 times. The yield of sunflower and potatoes grew up by 1.4 and 1.7 times, respectively. The yield of fodder crops decreased by 0.8-1.3 times. The changing structure of the cultivated areas should be ensured by filling the required amount of consumed soil resources.
