The analysis of the size of the shadow economy in the Republic of Uzbekistan

Abstract:
The economy of Uzbekistan was in crisis throughout the period after the collapse of the USSR and one of the negative consequences was the growth of the volume and various forms of the shadow economy. The shadow sector acquired such forms as criminal income, tax evasion and shadow employment. All of these activities fall under the definition of the shadow economy, a phenomenon that is extremely complex and presents certain problems in measurement. In this work, we try to measure the volume of the shadow economy of Uzbekistan by several methods and get very contradictory results that do not allow us to determine the effectiveness of the methods used with a high probability. According to the results of our analysis, the volume of the shadow economy of Uzbekistan for the analyzed period ranged from 12 to 52%.
