Abstract:
The article shows the trends of digital replacement of labour resources in the Russian economy. Digital substitution is considered as the refusal of employers (owners of enterprises and organizations) from using hired, contractual or free human labour in favour of intelligent digital technologies that can more efficiently perform mechanistic, routine and repetitive operations, functions, and business processes. Quite recently, the trends towards digital substitution were poorly expressed in Russia. However, the COVID-19 epidemic has stimulated the introduction of advanced intelligent and digital technologies in commerce, personal services, and the financial sector. Probably, in the next 5-10 years, we should expect an acceleration of digitalization of other industries and spheres of the real sector of the economy, which can lead to the rapid release of a large number of labour resources with a low level of education and low intellectual capital. This could create additional tension in Russian society.
