Abstract:
The monograph is devoted to the analysis of modern political discourse, in particular, such a characteristic feature as irony. In the modern world, where political debates turn into a kind of talk show, and the entertainment of the audience becomes one of the goals of the speeches of statesmen, irony has become widespread. The author focuses on the study of the mechanisms of manipulation, influence on the audience, consideration of the specific language of individual politicians. The comparison of English, American and Russian political discourse allows us to draw conclusions about the ethnostilistic features of the use of irony. The relationship between the irony of the politician and his success as a speaker is established. The book can be useful in the development of lecture courses on intercultural communication, discourse theory, political linguistics. The results of the study will interest specialists in the field of political science, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, linguopragmatics, ethnostilistics, as well as all lovers of irony and humor.
