The article analyzes the complex impact of structural factors on the socio-economic development of five Southeast Asian countries: Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The objective of the article is to develop an original approach for assessing the influence of a group of factors that shape long-term conditions for the development of the studied countries or act as driving forces of this process. The article examines methods commonly used in country-specific studies. The most suitable method for achieving the stated goal involves constructing an integral index. The paper presents the results of developing an index of structural factors, which includes ten components characterizing individual conditions and drivers of development. A key advantage of the index's structure is its consideration of current trends in global economic relations. The calculated integral indicator also proved robust to the sequential exclusion of its components. This aligns with the author's developed approach, which implies a consistent rejection of mono-causal explanations for existing differentiation in development at the national level. Comparing the index values across the group of studied countries leads to the conclusion that they do not fully realize the potential embedded in their structural socio-economic development factors. At the present stage, the only exception is Malaysia — the leader both in terms of the majority of the index components and the overall integral indicator itself.
Данная статья посвящена проблеме комплексного воздействия структурных факторов на социально-экономическое развитие пяти стран Юго-Восточной Азии: Малайзии, Таиланда, Индонезии, Филиппин и Вьетнама. Целью работы была разработка авторского подхода к оценке влияния группы факторов, формирующих долгосрочные условия для развития исследуемых стран либо выступающих в качестве движущих сил данного процесса. Для начала были проанализированы методы, которые часто используются в страноведческих исследованиях. Наиболее подходящим для достижения поставленной цели является метод, предполагающий построение интегрального индекса. Во второй части исследования приведены результаты разработки индекса структурных факторов, включающего в себя десять компонентов, которые характеризуют отдельные условия и движущие силы развития. Достоинством структуры индекса является то, что учитываются современные тенденции развития мирохозяйственных связей. Рассчитанный интегральный показатель также оказался устойчивым к последовательному исключению его компонентов. Это соответствует выработанному автором подходу, предполагающему последовательный отказ от моноказуального объяснения существующей дифференциации развития на страновом уровне. Сопоставление значений индекса исследуемой группы стран позволяет сделать вывод о том, что они не в полной мере реализуют потенциал, заложенный структурными факторами социально-экономического развития. На современном этапе единственным исключением является Малайзия – лидер как по большинству компонентов индекса, так и по самому интегральному показателю
