<abstract xml:lang="en">
Nowadays there is the need to enhance the forecasting accuracy for the development of animal husbandry in the Far North conditions under a limited statistical database and high inertia of production processes. The article aims to conduct a comparative assessment of four alternative approaches to forecasting key livestock indicators of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia): the method of combined trend extrapolation, ARIMAX, Ridge Regression, and Random Forest. Data from 2010–2019 were utilized as the training sample, while verification was performed against actual values for the period of 2020–2024.

It has been established that in the context of short time series, trend extrapolation frequently surpasses complex machine learning algorithms, which are prone to degenerating into a constant or suffering from overfitting.
Gross milk yield was predicted most accurately using the trend-regression technique, achieving a mean absolute percentage error of 1.9%. Egg production showed the highest accuracy under the ARIMAX model with an exogenous variable (13.7%), while the composite metric for livestock and poultry intended for slaughter was also modeled most effectively via ARIMAX (5.8%).

The conclusion substantiates the absence of a universal model and emphasizes the need to select a forecasting method depending on the type of product, availability of predictors, and the forecast horizon.

<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru">
