<p>The article examines event marketing as a marketing communication tool in the AAA video game segment and analyzes its role in generating free media coverage, i.e. earned media. The relevance of the research is due to the transformation of the media environment of the gaming industry, the growth of the budget for promoting game projects and the decrease in the effectiveness of traditional advertising channels. The article aims to identify functional differences between the key formats of gaming events and analyze their contribution to the formation of media resonance.
The methodological basis of the research includes a qualitative comparative analysis of cases using methods of secondary data analysis, content analysis of publications in specialized media and audience viewership indicators. The theoretical part is based on research in event marketing, earned media and the theory of media events. The strategy of promoting the game Death Stranding 2, implemented using award ceremonies, platform digital showcases and industry exhibitions, is considered as an empirical case.
As a result of the research, the typology of event marketing formats of AAA games is considered; and their functional heterogeneity is shown.

It is established that award ceremonies perform the function of institutional legitimization of the project and provide a short-term concentrated burst of attention. Platform presentations (showcases) contribute to maintaining the interest of the target audience, and industry exhibitions form deep engagement and sustained fan discourse. The article develops an analytical model of event marketing of AAA games based on the differentiation of formats of game events and types of earned media generated.</p>
