The article examines the problem of the structural discrepancy between the expansion of Thailand's production potential and the limited ability of the domestic market to meet the demand for growing industrial output. The author analyzes the impact of the investment boom, the development of export-oriented industries and the restructuring of global industrial relations on the changing role of Thailand in the global economy. The export-oriented model of the country's development is considered not only as a result of the growth of investment attractiveness but also as a source of macroeconomic vulnerabilities. It is shown that dependence on external demand, transnational capital, and trade policies of key partners can limit the sustainability of industrial modernization. Particular attention is paid to the fact that the transition to more technologically complex sectors by itself does not eliminate the problem of external dependence without developing internal added value and national competencies. The article will be of interest to researchers of international economics, specialists in industrial policy, foreign trade, investment development and the economies of Southeast Asian countries.
В статье рассматривается проблема структурного расхождения между расширением производственного потенциала Таиланда и ограниченной способностью внутреннего рынка обеспечивать спрос на растущий промышленный выпуск. Автор анализирует влияние инвестиционного подъёма, развития экспортно-ориентированных отраслей и перестройки глобальных производственных связей на изменение роли Таиланда в мировой экономике. Научная новизна исследования состоит в том, что экспортно-ориентированная модель развития страны рассматривается не только как результат роста инвестиционной привлекательности, но и как источник макроэкономических уязвимостей. Показано, что зависимость от внешнего спроса, транснационального капитала и торговой политики ключевых партнёров может ограничивать устойчивость промышленной модернизации. Особое внимание уделяется тому, что переход к более технологически сложным секторам сам по себе не устраняет проблему внешней зависимости без развития внутренней добавленной стоимости и национальных компетенций.
