<abstract xml:lang="en">
The modern business environment, like the economy as a whole, is characterized by a high level of instability, as well as rapid technological changes. Under these conditions, the concept of business model becomes particularly important, since the business model ceases to be just a tool for describing the internal processes of an organization and becomes the basis for creating competitive advantages and ensuring the company's competitiveness in the market. Understanding how the business model concept has evolved allows for a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms for creating and retaining value for consumers, as well as identifying new sources of growth for companies. The article analyzes the evolution of concept of business model in the 20th–21st centuries. The article concludes that the business model must be carefully developed and constantly updated. The necessity of transition from the concept of business model to the concept of business ecosystem is substantiated. A model of an adaptive dynamic business ecosystem is proposed. The article may be of interest to specialists in strategic management, business leaders and business people interested in increasing the competitiveness of their companies through the design and optimization of business models, as well as to academic staff involved in business process modeling.

<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru">
