<abstract xml:lang="en">
The article examines current trends in capital movements in the form of foreign direct investment (FDI) and their transformation against the backdrop of rising geopolitical tensions and a changing configuration of the world economy. The analysis shows that, after a prolonged period of rapid expansion, global FDI has entered a phase of slower growth, accompanied by increasing geographical and sectoral concentration of flows, a shift towards strategic and high technology industries, and a reallocation of investment in favor of regional hubs and “friendly” jurisdictions. Drawing on statistical evidence and recent international studies, the article conceptualizes geoeconomic fragmentation, identifies its main manifestations, and assesses its potential effects on the global economy, including higher transaction costs, the weakening of global value chains, and increased vulnerability of developing countries. The article highlights the increasing importance of regional value chains and integration associations. It is concluded that geoeconomic fragmentation creates a new context for analyzing international capital movements and calls for a reassessment of traditional approaches to the role of FDI in the global economy.

<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru">
