<abstract xml:lang="en">
The article provides a critical review of contemporary transnationalization concepts for analyzing foreign direct investment (FDI), including classic theories (monopolistic advantage, product life cycle, and internalization) and John Dunning's eclectic OLI paradigm. Special attention is paid to the advantages and limitations of the eclectic model, as well as new approaches (new economic geography, heterogeneous firms’ model, gravity model, institutionalism, and global value chains). Based on the analysis of foreign and domestic sources, the article identifies prospects for the development of FDI theories, considering digitalization, geoeconomic fragmentation, and the role of small companies. The article may be of interest to researchers of international capital movements, economists, and analysts involved in investment policy.

<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru">
