<abstract xml:lang="en">
The article is devoted to the study of the ways society can adapt to socio-economic shocks by creating compensation mechanisms for the party most affected by the changes. The research is based on the analysis of historical examples. It has been revealed that compensation mechanisms significantly increases the degree of sustainability and controllability of society, reducing the level of social tension and resistance to social changes. Moreover, in some cases, adequate compensation mechanisms can positively influence the level of trust towards the government (both institutional and political trust and trust between individual social groups with conflicting interests). Finally, it is noted that when providing compensation to the losing party, it is necessary to consider the change in the balance of power as a result of socio-economic transformations. In this case, it is important to create restrictions for the party that gains power as a result of socio-economic changes.

Financing:
The work was carried out with financial support of the Russian Science Foundation (project 23-28-00358) (“Institutional and structural conditions for adaptation to economic development shocks”).

<trans-abstract xml:lang="ru">
